TRUSTED TOURS WHEN VISITING MERIDA
Hey everyone! Have you heard about the new mega project that’s been the talk of the town in Merida Yucatan? It’s Gran Parque La Plancha, and it’s nothing short of amazing! Not long ago, the President of Mexico unveiled this incredible park, and today, I’m super excited to take you on a tour.
First off, let’s talk size – this park is huge! Imagine an entire city’s worth of fun stuff to do, and the best part? It’s all free (well, except for some snacks and the bathroom). The number of playgrounds here is just mind-blowing. There are playgrounds for kids, and even one for “adult children” like me! Trust me, these playgrounds are a blast and a great way to stay active.
For those who love skating, there’s an entire skate park waiting for you. And if you’re into running or biking, you’ll find beautifully laid out courses with meter markers, so you know exactly how far you’ve gone. Dog lovers, don’t worry, there’s a fantastic dog park for your furry friends too!
After all that activity, you might want to cool down at the Mirror Pond. It’s designed for walking through, but hey, if you’re feeling adventurous, why not take a swim? This has to be my favorite spot in the park; it’s such a unique feature!
The park is also home to a giant amphitheater and is surrounded by trains, which is super cool because it ties into the history of the place. Parque La Plancha got its name because it used to be a train maintenance spot known as “La Plancha” – that’s “The Grill” in English, kind of like a big rotating train service station. Kind of like Thomas the Train. How awesome is that?
Now, if you get hungry, there are plenty of options inside the park, but for a real treat, I suggest stepping out into the streets of Merida. Calle 47, starting at Parque La Plancha, marks the beginning of Merida’s gastronomy corridor. A restaurant row dedicated to upscale dining.
Oh, and don’t miss the lake with its fountain show at dusk. But my top pick has to be the interactive fountain – running around it is so much fun!
Hit the road with a local guide. Embark on a thrilling bike tour that weaves through Grand Parque La Plancha’s sprawling greenery and along the historic Paseo de Montejo. Led by an expert guide, you’ll uncover the rich tapestry of Merida’s culture and history, all from the unique vantage point of your bicycle. This tour promises an exhilarating blend of adventure, education, and unforgettable scenic views, perfect for explorers of all ages.
