TRUSTED TOURS WHEN VISITING MERIDA
Hey friends! Today, I’m taking you on a special bike ride through Merida, Mexico, to show you three different neighborhoods that really give you the flavor of what life is like here in the Yucatan. From history-filled areas to new developments, Merida has it all. So, grab your helmet, and let’s hit the road!
First stop: Montes De Ame. This neighborhood is on the luxurious side, with modern, upscale homes and a peaceful vibe. The streets are wide and quiet, perfect for a leisurely bike ride. Around here, you’ll find plenty of restaurants and shops, although they’re spread out, so having a bike or car helps. If you’re dreaming of living in a nice, quiet area, Montes De Ame might just be your spot.
One cool thing about Merida? Businesses are often nestled right within residential homes, making the city feel like a close-knit community. You might stumble upon a dentist or a barber operating out of their house, but don’t be surprised to find bigger, more stylish offices too!
Next, we cruised over to a local park in Montes De Ame, which is a gem found in many Merida neighborhoods. This particular one is filled with modern amenities, like awesome workout equipment. Parks like these are great for staying active and meeting neighbors.
Speaking of neighbors, you might wonder if I live in an “expat bubble.” But nope! Merida is super diverse, with folks from all over Mexico and the world, making it a rich tapestry of cultures and languages, including Mayan.
Now, let’s pedal over to Xcumpich, a super local area with a fun name that means “place of the enchanted tree” in Mayan. We explored the streets, admired the vibrant local life, and even spotted some Paya fruit hanging from the trees – that’s dragon fruit for those who might not know!
Xcumpich is unique because it’s built around an old Hacienda, which is central to the community. We looked for the “enchanted tree” the neighborhood is named after but found out the original was sadly cut down. However, we did find another magical tree that felt straight out of a fairy tale!
Our final stop was Francisco De Montejo, a neighborhood bustling with activity, where you’re never too far from a tasty restaurant or a grocery store like Super Aki. It’s similar to Montes De Ame but with its own charm and busy streets running through its center.
Before we wrapped up, I showed off the Parque Lineal, a bike path that stretches across Merida, offering a “choose your own adventure” vibe with its diverse terrains and amenities.
