Discovering Merida’s Unique Malls: shopping for thrills in Mexico

TRUSTED TOURS WHEN VISITING MERIDA

Hola adventurers! Today, I’m super excited to take you on a tour of some incredible malls in Merida, Mexico. Merida, a bustling city on the Yucatan Peninsula, has seen a lot of growth recently, and one way to see this is through its shopping centers. We’re going to check out three amazing malls on the north side of the city, each with its own surprising features.

First up is La Isla, my absolute favorite mall in Merida. This place is a shopper’s paradise, whether you’re browsing stores inside or enjoying the outdoor area by the lake. Yes, you read that right – this mall has its own lake! But that’s not all; La Isla is packed with entertainment options like a wakeboard park, a full amusement park, and even a stadium for live concerts. Imagine rocking out to bands like Apocalyptica right after launching in the air at a wakeboard park!

The day I recorded the video above, it was the day of Buen Fin, a day when stores offer huge discounts, kind of like Black Friday in the United States.  It occurs the weekend before Mexican Revolution Day, which is observed on the third Monday of November. The mall was buzzing with excitement, and there was a huge crowd gathered around the stage waiting for a famous beauty influencer.

Next on our list is Las Galerias, another gem in the north of Merida. If you’re looking to cool off, this mall has some great options. But before we dive into that, I have to tell you about ‘Arcade’, my top restaurant pick here. It’s a gamer’s dream, with each table featuring its own game console loaded with classic video games. Here in Merida, dining out is all about enjoying yourself, not just eating and leaving. Restaurants often have playrooms for kids or even pools!

The centerpiece for Las Galerias is a full ice skating rink that offers a place to chill out.

After navigating the bustling crowds at Las Galerias, we’ll head across the street to Harbor, the newest mall we’re exploring today. Designed by architects from Boston, Harbor is inspired by the cenotes, those incredible underground swimming holes unique to the Yucatan. The centerpiece is a massive cenote-style fountain that you just have to see.

As evening falls, Harbor transforms with its high-end restaurants overlooking the fountain, offering a perfect setting for a special night out.

Merida’s malls are more than just places to shop; they’re destinations for fun, relaxation, and even a bit of adventure. Whether you’re catching deals on Buen Fin, gaming while dining, or marveling at a cenote-inspired fountain, Merida has a shopping experience for everyone.
